The ambient temperature in Norway is lower than in Spain, about 10 degrees or more on average, so they say. But we have been able to personally verify that a warm Flemish heart beats in its capital.
The tenth edition of the Oslo International Flamenco Festival was held from April 23 to 26, making the Norwegian city once again the meeting point for flamenco artists from Northern Europe. On this occasion it has brought together some of the most prominent names in the current flamenco and Spanish dance scene. The theme Roots & Revolution: dance, word and living heritage has been a statement of intent, inviting us to look to the future, without forgetting where we come from.
The Festival opened on Thursday 23rd with El Amor Brujoby Manuel de Falla, reinterpreted by a circle of women. A beautiful and suggestive proposal thanks to the careful choreography of Gabriel Aragú and the commitment of the dancers of the Espacio Flamenco Norge collective, who made the audience feel part of a shared experience of liberation, transformation and collective strength.
Next, in the interesting seminar on Flamenco Argumental, we were able to approach a contemporary view of flamenco as a narrative language and better understand how tradition dialogues with new forms of storytelling on stage.
On Friday the 24th the courses at West End Studios began, which completed the program with a very attractive and varied training proposal, offering the trainees a very complete experience for 3 days. A space of immersion in flamenco designed for different levels and ages, with classes in body technique, bulerías, farruca, etc. and a first class pedagogical line-up. Tran Tran was present with a stand, from which we were able to meet students and teachers and share with them the experience.
On Saturday 25th we experienced a truly magical evening at the Cosmopolite Scene. The event began paying tribute to Spanish dance in all its forms with Laura Fúnez and Daniel Ramos. It continued with a proposal inspired by the Cafés Cantantes with Zaira Prudencio and Federico Ordoñez on dance, Carmen García on guitar and Pedro “El Niño de la Fragua” on vocals. All of them were brilliant and, with this display of art, led the audience from the enjoyment of elegance and beauty, to the most intense vibration. An experience full of professionalism, strength and flavor, which managed to thrill the audience.
The end of the party was in charge of Patax, a group that fuses flamenco with jazz, funk and world music, led by Jorge Perez, with the voice of Aurora Garcia and the unrepeatable Sara Sanchez dancing. Fantastic, as always, they were in charge of raising the energy of the audience to the limit, putting the perfect finishing touch to the evening.
But it was not only on stage that things happened. In the times before and during the breaks, the theater lobby became a meeting point for fans and lovers of flamenco. There we had the opportunity to present Tran Tran, exchange impressions and enjoy the atmosphere.
In addition, it was a great pleasure to share the space with two charming proposals:
- Nathaly Sántana Gálvez and her beautiful and suggestive handcrafted jewelry, created and inspired by natural elements of her natural environment, which magically links Andalusia with the Nordic forests.
- Experience B-Lines – Bebo’s work, with lines that convey life and movement, touches and moves the beholder.
The Oslo International Flamenco Festival 2026 confirms that flamenco continues to shine in Norway and to be a space of connection between cultures and people.
We would like to express our sincere thanks to Bellali Austria and all the organizing team for their extraordinary work, as well as for giving us the opportunity to be part of this community and live this beautiful experience.
With love,
Miriam y Pilar
